Healthy Kids
Every child has specific needs and develops at their own pace. By eating the right foods recommended in Canada's Food Guide, children can get the nutrients they need to grow and thrive. Young children can have small appetites making mealtime a challenge. Here you'll find ways to make food fun and delicious!
By encouraging healthy habits at an early age you are encouraging healthy living for life. The best way to inspire your children is to lead by example:
Try doing activities together like joining team sports, walking, biking, or swimming.
Encourage them to eat 5-10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day - one serving is as little as a 1/2 cup of juice or an apple.
Add fruits and vegetables in fun ways:
Serve bite-sized pieces with dip for a snack.
Hide them into pasta sauces, soups and pizzas.
Kids need carbohydrates to fuel their growing bodies and minds:
They need 5 – 12 servings a day.
A bowl of cereal at breakfast, a sandwich at lunch and 1/2 cup of pasta at dinner fills one day’s needs.
